On your marks, get set, go!

This Sunday, I was invited by the Trussell Trust to start their annual Food Bank 5k over at Old Sarum. I am always happy to support a local charity that I know does such a great deal for our community; the Food Bank is a brilliant resource that started in Salisbury, and now provides much needed emergency supplies to around 60000 people nationally. Seeing almost a hundred runners turn out to show their support for this cause on such an overcast day highlights the dedication to charity that I am continually delighted to see in Salisbury. Twice as many people as the Trust expected actually took part this year, and hopefully even more will compete next year. Somehow I have ended up volunteering to run myself next year, and look forward to tackling the challenge!

The event itself was a great success again this year; I stayed to see many of the runners from the finish line and presented trophies to the first three men and women across the line. The quickest time was an outstanding 22 minutes! Congratulations to everyone who took part and helped make it a success.
