When I became the Member of Parliament for Salisbury, I pledged to spend one day a month volunteering at a local charity, Parliamentary business permitting.

My latest volunteering stint was with Alabare Christian Care Centres. In an attempt to gain an overview of the vast range of work Alabare does, I was put to work in several sites across the city centre – Cafe Alabare, the drop-in centre and the charity's head office.
There is no better way to gain a full understanding of the work of an organisation and the needs it is addressing than by spending a day getting 'hands-on' with its day to day running and Alabare was no exception. They gave me a tough but thoroughly enlightening and worthwhile day, for which I am very grateful.
